The Christmas Morning Doll and Gown

This year as I was making dolls for Christmas I had an idea. My girls are always around me when I am creating. They have been asking "make a doll for us mom". So I came up with this beautiful set. It reminds me of being a child and all of the excitement of Christmas morning. In my house growing up we always received a new pair of Pajamas for Christmas. And nothing could be more timeless than a white cotton nightgown with a matching china doll. (I also have to give credit to my friend Sarah for making these beautiful gowns. )

Modified Christmas Angel 2008

I wanted to add a little more "Bling" to this doll and so I gave her a charm necklace that says "Believe" I think it really adds and brings a new look to her. This could possibly be my favorite one!
She really sparkles!

Christmas 2009

This is my latest. I am very pleased with the way she turned out. She is wearing a retro teal top with a red and white skirt that I faded to look vintage. She is also wearing a star crown with a grayish blue bead. I made her a charm that says "JOY", which is what my heart feels like when I think of Christmas as a child and growing up. Her banner reads "Peace on Earth".

Pilgrim 2009

I wanted to capture the simplicity of Thanksgiving in this piece. I love the Quaker style the simple black and white. So I tried to bring that to life in my doll. And of course she needs a charm. This one reads 1620 ( the year they landed on Plymouth Rock). And a beautiful tag that reads "Give Thanks" with a vintage style button.

Halloween Witch 2009

This witch is more traditional. The black and orange styles and fabrics. I love, love, love charms! and wanted to add some to her. They really give a unique style to things. I also made the black cat. What is a witch without a black cat? This doll is done also in a soft blue accent.

Lady Liberty 2009

This is "Lady Liberty". So many memories and emotions surface when I look at her. Independence day is one of the most memorable days of my childhood. We would go and visit my Grandmother who lived in Cedar City Utah. My mother would buy us four older girls identical outfits and then we were off to the Parade. The fireworks, the beautiful floats and of course the flag. I don't know about you but there seems to be a feeling on the fourth of July that is always present. A feeling of common ground and unity. A feeling of gratitude and peace. I wanted to capture that. The beautiful red , white and blue. Everything on her is handmade. From the crown to the flag. And once again, lots of tinsel and glitter.

Spring Lady 2009

This is my "Spring Lady". She was fun to create. When I think of Easter I think of "pretty things". I came from a family of five girls and Easter was a time of new dresses and hats. I dressed her in a hand-dyed "robin egg blue" dress with a soft pink trim. And of course what would Easter be without a string of pearls? She is complete with a hand crafted peep chick and a vintage foil basket.

Queen of Hearts 2009

She was a lot of fun to make. Valentines is such a fun holiday and it is always hard to find decorations for your house that are fun and unique. She probably took the most time to make out of all of my dolls. Though it is hard to see in the picture she has three soldered charms on her waist and of course is trimmed with Tinsel and Glitter.

Christmas Angel 2008

I wanted to capture more or less the feeling of an Old Fashioned Christmas with this doll. I am a big fan of Little House on the Prairie and can remember a similar doll being shown on one of the Christmas episodes. Once again the tinsel and glitter and simplicity of this doll sends in a flood of childhood memories.

Halloween Witch 2008

This was my first doll. She was a lot of fun to make and it was then that I realized that it is possible to turn memories into magic. My favorite holiday is Halloween. The smell of lit Jack o Lanterns and that crisp fall air takes me back to being a child and those carefree days. This witch is 100% handmade, from her painted face to her striped legs. I also hand solder all of the charms for my dolls.
